Understanding Your WWS Report

This is Part 1 of what may turn out to be a very long series of tutorials regarding the ever-popular Raid recorder, WoW Web Stats.

If you have never heard of WWS, you can read about it here. Get familiar with it, or with a similar program, and you will be able to improve your gameplay through examination.

This first tutorial will explain the individual Character stats. See the example below:

In order to get to this page and view your own Character sheet, you simply click directly on your name from the front page, as shown below.

Select your character's name.

First we’ll discuss what the left top section means.

Obviously, it shows who you are and who your pet was. For me, I also receive stats from Risen Ally, since a few DK’s rezzed me as a ghoul throughout the raid. Let’s check out the first stats.

Active presence : This stat shows how long you were active within your raid. If your raid lasted for 3 hours, but you joined an hour late, this would say 2 hours, about 66% of the raid. Format looks like hours versus feet, but in this case, the apostrophe refers to minutes.

Dmg. Out : This is how much damage you put out during the entire raid. There are two segments – “to foes” and “to friends”. This simply means how much damage you did to the raid mobs, and how much you did to your raid members (through mind control, debuffs, or other such friendly-fire creators). The percentage here is the total Raid % that you contributed to. In this case, my damage was a full 7% of total raid damage done by all of our guildmates.

Heals : This, like Dmg. Out, is the amount of healing you did throughout the entire raid, both to Guildmates and to Raid Mobs (again, via Mind Control, debuffs, etc.). You are seeing healing on my sheet because ALL healing is counted, including any Health Stones, potions, Mend Pet, and other such things.

Dmg. In : This refers to how much damage you took, and how much of that damage was from Friendly Fire. My guildmates were obviously trying to kill me. o.O

Now let’s take a look at the other portion of the top stats.

This segment gets to the things we can really understand: DPS.

DPS time : This is the total portion of the raid that you actually stood and PewPewed. For me, it was 48% of the original 3 hours and 18 minutes. At first, it looks like a tiny amount, but when you factor in running time, wipes, afk’s and human latency (all those times you ran around in circles confused about where to fire next), it makes perfect sense.

DPS : This is your average damage per second during the entire raid. This includes all trash and failed boss attempts.

HPS time : This is how long you spent healing. Obviously, a hunter doesn’t spend much time healing.

HPS : This is your average heals per second.

DTPS time : Stands for Damage Taken Per Second, this shows everyone just how accident-prone you are. 17% of my raiding time involved me getting hit with something.

DTPS : Exactly how much damage you took per second on average. Keep in mind that this is only during your allotted “damaged time”, which for me was 33 minutes total.

This concludes the first part of the ongoing “Understanding Your WWS” tutorial. If you have any questions, corrections, comments, or suggestions, feel free to email me at mmnassira@gmail.com at any time.
