And I’m back from, what seems to me to be, a very long blogging break.
Things are coming together for school this fall, and everything is looking very good. I applied late, so all this junk has to get done within a very small time frame, and I have been researching and working furiously to get all my ends tied. While I’ve been to college before, it was very different, so most of this is pretty new to me. Not to mention I’ll be paying for it all myself…
So now that we know what I’ve been up to, I’ll let you know what the guild has been up to in my absence: General Vezax.
<Explicit> managed to take Vezax down last week while I was chattering on the phone to my father about moving vans and art supplies.
I’m so proud of them. *sniffle* But this also means that we get to attempt Yogg-Saron, and that’s exactly what we did last night. Man, this fight is insane. No, seriously, you can go insane. We managed to get through phase 1 twice in the hour or so that we attempted him, but phase 2 will definitely require some work. Tonight, we’ll have a full night to do nothing but Yoggy, so we’ll see how far we can get in 3 1/2 hours.
Lately, though, and this is why my post is titled as it is, I’ve found my new favorite toy: Disengage.
I remember back when it first got changed to a jump-back. Everyone, including myself, was saying, “Hmm, well it’s okay for PvP but I can’t foresee using it in PvE…” Oh the things you can learn in time! Disengage has been a fantastic ability in Ulduar. We may not have much use for it in Naxx, but in Ulduar, I’ve had to bind it to a readily-available key because of the frequency with which I use it. What’s even more fun is using your creative mind to find new uses for Disengage. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Disengage can be useful in probably 85% of all the fighting in Ulduar, possibly more. It’s been fun learning exactly how to aim with it (the best part is that you start backward) and combining it with Rocket Boots is probably one of the most fun parts of the game for me right now. Yeah, wrap your brain around that one…
Honestly, though, I highly suggest that every hunter keep in mind this ability and find ways to make it useful to you. I know sometimes us PvEers forget it even exists, but trust me on this; you really want to remember it.
That being said, my other adventure this weekend involved the new MMO, Aion. Yes, I’ll be playing Aion from release, and I played with the Beta for about two hours this weekend. If you like WoW, you will love Aion. I could spend hours at the character creation screen. Below is my Chanter, Nassira. (like the name? pretty unique, I think)

I didn’t have enough time to get her to level 10 and test out the wings (in case you didn’t know, this game has aerial combat with big, feathery wings). All in all, though, the entire game behaves very much like WoW, although I believe from what I’ve read that raiding will be different, and don’t even think about being on a PvE server: this game has PvP through and through. I’m very excited to see the raiding dynamics of this game. It comes out September 22, though you can preorder it now and be a part of the final Beta testing. I recommend spending the extra few bucks to get the collector’s edition, as it has certain in-game things that will really help your gameplay.
All in all, it’s been a very successful, crazy week, and I fear it will only get more unstable from here. I’ll be back tomorrow with a full account of our attempts on Yogg-Saron.
